Martha E. Newcomb
 

Martha E. Newcomb, 90, of Pendleton, died peacefully after a brief illness on Feb. 20, 2014. She was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Mt. Vernon, Ind., living most of her life in Pendleton.

She dedicated her life as a wife, homemaker and loving mother. The joys of her life were her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She loved to cook and fish. She was a member of the Moose Lodge 1617 of Petersburg, Ind.

Survivors include her four daughters and one son-in-law, Judy Gordon of Anderson; Becky and Charles McKay, Cathy Snead and Marsha Newcomb all of Pendleton; two stepchildren, Joe and Rose Newcomb of Herald and Marilla Walther of Evansville; two sisters, Amye Rue Martin of Oakland City and Georgia Price of Petersburg; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Noel Newcomb; parents, Ralph and Esther (Thurman) Sumners; two brothers, Ralph and Curtis Sumners; two sisters, Ruth Houghland and Mary Louise Vaughan; stepdaughter, Emma R. Walther; and son-in-law, William Gordon.

Visitation was 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Lahm Chapel. Serviceswere held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton with John Aukerman officiating. Burial followed in Huntsville Cemetery.
