Leola (Wright) Murphy
Leola (Wright) Murphy, 93, Pendleton, passed away June 13, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Greenfield. Leola was born along with her identical twin, Leota, in Hamilton County on April 25, 1920, and was a Pendleton resident for 61 years.
She was a 1939 graduate of Westland High School and a member of Pendleton Baptist Church. In their youth, Leola performed with her sister, Leota as the “Girls of the Golden West”. She served as the recording secretary for the Reverend John Corbly Descendants Association for 32 years. Leola spent many years in research of the Corbly family and its descendants. She published over seven genealogies. Leola was an avid reader and spent many hours crocheting and practicing the ancient art of quilling, known as paper filigree.
Survivors include her three children, Linda Lee Shull of Mohawk, James Ervin (wife, Johnny) Murphy of French Lick, and Janet Sue (husband, Craig) Tunget of Pendleton; identical twin sister, Leota (Wright) O’Bannon of Pendleton; four grandchildren, Jeff (wife, Cathy) Shull of Clermont, Debbie Best of Wilkinson, Kristi (husband, Allen) Wright of Pendleton, and Kimberly Murphy Conley of Fayetteville, Ark.; granddaughter-in-law, Noelle Shull of Pendleton; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her church family.
Leola was preceded in death by her parents, Warren C. and Estel Ruey (Kenton) Wright; husband, Ervin Ray Murphy; grandson, Neal Shull; brother, Corbly Wright; and two sisters, Anna May Bouch and Leta Ruth Wright.
Visitation will from 2 - 6 p.m., Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
