FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon Community School Corp. has named Jeff Brandes as a Mt. Vernon Middle School assistant principal, effective Oct. 21.

Brandes comes to Mt. Vernon Schools with a range of skills and experience, including school improvement, behavioral support, academic support, athletics, social support and school-wide data.

Prior to this appointment, Brandes served as the director for Christel House Schools in Indianapolis. Prior to that, he has 10 years’ experience as the associate and assistant principal with Anderson and Marion Community Schools. Brandes was part of the team that led Marion High School’s state grade to rise from a grade of an F to a B.

He began his education career in 1996 as a physical education and health teacher.

Brandes received his bachelor of science in education from the University of Dayton in 1996 and his master of science in education administration from Butler University in 2003.

Brandes has coached athletics throughout his career, most recently as the Mt. Vernon varsity assistant tennis coach and as varsity boys basketball coach at Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis for four years.

Benjamin Williams, principal at Mt. Vernon Middle School, said he’s excited to welcome Brandes to the Mt. Vernon team.
