Royals game ends in tie

Eastern Hancock took on Warren Central on Thursday night, and the game was ruled a 5-5 tie after being called off due to darkness.

Each team had scored a run in the first, and the Warriors took a 3-1 lead after five innings. The Royals pushed across four in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead, and the visitors managed to tie the score in the seventh before the game was called.

Faithe Webster tripled and had two hits for the Royals. Taylor Koch had a double and a single. Elise Bittinger threw four innings on the mound, striking out five and allowing three hits and no runs. Maddie Turner pitched three innings, striking out five but walking four and allowing four runs on two hits.

Royals get first win

Eastern Hancock notched its first victory of the season Thursday, topping Cambridge City Lincoln, 8-4.

Ryan Burris had a big day for the Royals, with four of the team’s nine hits and three RBIs. He had two triples, a double and a single to lead the Eastern Hancock offense. Keegan Bowman had two hits, including a double, and Cameron Wise tripled for the Royals.

The visitors used seven different pitchers, each throwing one inning. They combined to hold the Golden Eagles to five hits and four runs.

Eastern Hancock falls

Eastern Hancock competed against Tri in their first head-to-head match of the season on Thursday, falling at Royal Hylands, 213 to 221.

The Royals will look for their first win Tuesday against Triton Central.

Girls tennis

Royals get another win

Eastern Hancock took on Rushville on Thursday, coming away with their second straight 3-2 victory.

At No. 1 singles, Cassandra Hannemann picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win. Corina Jennings won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Madison Hagan and Kalyn Edwards got the Royals their third point and the win, winning a competitive match, 7-5, 6-4.

Dragons drop 5-0 match

New Palestine lost a 5-0 decision Thursday to Park Tudor.

The Dragons’ most competitive match came from Ashley Truman and Sheridan Schrowe at No. 2 doubles, as they dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision.

At No. 1 singles, Megan Long dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to a nationally-ranked player for Park Tudor. Nicole Wernimont fell 6-0, 6-0 and Caylie Almond 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Claire Cherry/Josee King fell 6-2, 6-0.

Track

Dragons stay perfect

The New Palestine boys and girls track teams both remained unbeaten on the season Thursday with dual meet victories at Rushville. Both teams are now 5-0 on the season.

The Dragon boys won 77-55.

Ryker Large and Richard Clevenger each won two individual events. Large won the 100 and 200, while Clevenger won the discus and shot put. Josh Ackerman won the 800, Nick Bastian the long jump, Kyler Harrison the 3,200, Laine Schonauer the high jump and Spencer Worth the pole vault.

The Dragons also swept the relays. Large, Blake Austin, Michael Hughes and Charlie Spegal won the 4×100. Dylan Harsin, Hughes, Drew Austin and Schonauer won the 4×400. Josh Collins, Owen Kleine, Carson Sams and Devon Whitaker won the 4×800.

The Dragon girls won 77-52.

Aden Lumbley was a double-winner with victories in the shot put and discus. Anna Ackerman won the pole vault, Kennedy Stephenson the long jump and Jordan Reid the 100.

The Dragons swept the relays. Maya Hobbs, Taylor Kelley, Megan Bell and Stephenson won the 4×100. Sophia Taylor, Hobbs, Maigan Williams and Reid won the 4×400. Grace Voelz, Emma Mann, Emily Adam and Kaylin Casner won the 4×800.

Royals top Triton Central

The Eastern Hancock track teams faced Triton Central on Thursday, with the boys coming away with a 97-26 win and the girls picking up a 92-31 victory.

On the boys side, Skyler Sexton won the 110 and 300 hurdles. Skyler Schrope got wins in the 800 and 1,600 meter. Zach Arnold won the 200 and 400. Blayze Sarber won the 100, Nick Edwards the 3,200 and Brady Stephens won the shot put.

The Royals also got three relay wins, the 4×800 (Daniel Campbell, Edwards, Cayden Sotelo and Schrope), the 4×100 (Kyle Moore, Sexton, Cole Rainbolt and Sarber) and the 4×400 (Schrope, Rainbolt, Sexton and Sarber).

For the girls, Chloe O’Neal won the long jump and 100 meter dash. Hannah Gates won the 100 and 300 hurdles. Taylor Stine won the 200, Jenna White the 800 and Lainey Effing the 1,600. Daly Pelger and Sydney Janes tied in the high jump.

The Royals won three relays as well, with the 4×100 relay (Janes, Lexi Lewman, Aly Spaulding, Chloe O’Neal), the 4×400 (White, Lexi Knight, Mikala Linstrum, Janes) and the 4×800 (Ashton Willis, Annie Lindsay, White, Effing) all picking up wins.
