The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Nov. 2

Dragon Palace

Location: 415 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: NC/R — equipment non-food contact surfaces need to be clean to sight and touch, handles of cabinets, reach-in cooler, prep table by wok, all door knobs, drawer handles, repair floor in walk-in cooler so it is smooth, cleanable and secured, to be corrected by Feb. 1.

Speedway

Location: 5972 U.S. 40 West, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C — in-use tongs at roller food area need to be changed every four hours, corrected.

El Jaripeo

Location: 58 W. Main St., New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C/R — need more training when to change gloves/wash hands, employee cooking raw meats needs to change gloves after touching raw meat before touching anything else so as not to contaminate other surfaces and ready-to-eat food, corrected; NC — make paper towels available at all hand-washing sinks, hand soap empty at hand sink by dish machine, corrected.

Location: 6001 E. County Road 500S, Greenfield

Dollar General Store

Location: 2000 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R — need thermometer in cooler where eggs, hot dogs, etc., are stored, dock door in back, sweep at bottom is broken, to be corrected by Jan 1.

Nov. 8

Strough’s Supermarket

Location: 624 N. Madison St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C/R — date-mark sandwich spread with date that ingredients were started to accumulate, use date on container of “lunch meat ends” to put onto sandwich spread container, corrected; NC/R — gap at back door partially repaired, clean floors around equipment legs, lower shelves of equipment in meat cutting room and floor in milk cooler, to be corrected by Feb. 1.

Speedway

Location: 335 Broadway St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: NC — repair seal around mop sink, need thermometer in refrigerator in food prep area, to be corrected by May 1.

Treat America Food Service

Location: 400 W. New Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — must wash hands after handling raw chicken and container holding raw chicken, corrected; C — clean slicer after use including back side of blade, to be corrected by Nov. 8; NC — need light bulb replaced/repaired in freezer, shelving storing dry goods needs to be cleaned, grates/filters of hood on line need to be cleaned, shelving on line needs to be cleaned, clean under equipment and coving/corners, to be corrected by Feb. 1.
