Restaurant Inspections – October 21

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Aug. 17

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store

Location: 2265 Barrett Dr., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — utensils used on line that are not stored in hot holding or cold holding are food contact surfaces and need to be washed every four hours, corrected; C/R — sanitizing solution in sani bucket too high, corrected.

The Grill 2

Location: 6621 W. Broadway St., McCordsville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — must have certified food handler on premises, to be corrected by Nov. 1; C — cannot use a common towel, corrected; C/R — must wash hands and use new gloves when changing from one task to another, corrected; C — need to use tongs/fork to place lemons for drinks, corrected; C/R — drawers under grill are not holding product at 41 degrees or lower, to be corrected by Aug. 21; NC/R — plumbing must be maintained in good repair, hand sink running, to be corrected by Aug. 21; NC/R — paper towels must be available and used at all hand sinks, to be corrected by Aug. 17; NC/R — prep coolers and grill drawers need thermometers, to be corrected by Sept. 15; NC/R — clean floors to remove flour build-up in corner, clean can opener, clean dish machine walls and floor to remove mold-like substance, clean doors, gaskets and handles of equipment, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — ice scoop in bar area must be protected from contamination, corrected; NC — opened floor package store on floor, breading on floor, corrected; NC — wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizing solution between uses, corrected; NC/R — lighting is not sufficient in prep/slicer area, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

No violations found.

Aug. 22

Tour of Italy

Location: 5 American Legion Place, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — no certified food handler, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — handle of tongs in salad and handle of scoop for croutons in food, corrected; C — sanitizer in sani bucket too strong, corrected; NC — food debris on floor in dough making room, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Aug. 23

Fortville Broadway Diner

Location: 426 E. Broadway, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R — clean debris from ceiling, legs of equipment, grate with flour, to be corrected by Nov. 1; C — clean food contact surfaces like cutting boards, slicer and utensils not under refrigeration or heat every four hours, corrected.
