The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Feb. 7

Wendy’s

Location: 2809 N. County Road 600W, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – refrigeration unit holding salads too warm, corrected.

Feb. 8

K-Dog’s Pizza and Chicken

Location: 207 S. Main St., Shirley

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – clean cooler and freezer doors/handles.

Chicago’s Pizza

Location: 5917 W. Broadway St., McCordsville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – house-made pasta salad must be date-marked and cannot be held longer than seven days, corrected/discarded; C/R – must date-mark in-house made pasta used for salads and lunch meats removed from freezer, corrected; C – ledge inside ice machine needs to be cleaned to prevent contamination of ice, to be corrected by Feb. 8; NC/R – grime/food debris build-up on legs of equipment/tables, clean track of cooler near salad bar, clean refrigeration unit on pizza assembly line, to be corrected by May 1; NC – need food equipment thermometers in all refrigeration/freezer units, to be corrected by May 1; NC/R – clean floors under equipment, in corners, along edges and wall behind mixer, to be corrected by May 1.

Hancock Regional Hospital – Hancock Wellness

Location: 8535 N. Clearview Drive, McCordsville

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Feb. 9

Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant

Location: 1550 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – walk-in cooler food being held too warm, to be corrected by Feb. 11; NC – ice scoop in waitress area has handle in ice, corrected; NC – need to prevent grease from hood dripping into food, to be corrected by May 1; NC/R – remove grease grime build-up on floor behind grill, to be corrected by May 1; NC – need to have test strips available at dish machine, to be corrected by May 1.

Strough’s Supermarket

Location: 624 N. Madison St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – in-house made salads cannot be held beyond seven days, expired milk, corrected/discarded; NC – ice scoop must be stored in a clean protected manner, corrected; NC – need sanitizing test strips and need to be used, to be corrected by Feb. 14; NC/R – need to have three compartment sink in deli, to be corrected by May 1; NC – repair gap at dock doors to prevent pests, to be corrected by May 1.

Casey’s General Store

Location: 1133 E. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – sanitizing solution test strips need to be readily available and used, to be corrected by Feb. 21.
