Restaurant Inspections – October 15

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Sept. 28

Chicago’s Pizza

Location: 5913 W. Broadway, McCordsville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – soap dispenser not working properly at hand sinks, to be corrected by Sept. 29; C/R – pasta used to make salads need to be date-marked, to be corrected by Sept. 29; C – need to wash hands before putting on handling gloves and after leaving food prep area before food prep, to be corrected by Sept. 29; NC – grime food debris buildup on legs of equipment and tables, need to clean storage drawers used to store clean utensils, need to clean track of reach-in cooler by salad bar and walk-in cooler, to be corrected by 12/1; NC – clean scoops/spoons, etc., need to be stored on clean surface, to be corrected by Dec. 1; NC/R – clean floors under equipment, in corners and along edges, to be corrected by Dec. 1.

Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant

Location: 1550 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – three-compartment sink sanitizing solution is weak, corrected; C – dish machine not sanitizing, service called; C/R – spray bottles by three-compartment sink must be labeled when holding chemicals, corrected; NC – cannot thaw food on the counter, corrected; NC/R – ice scoops must be stored in clean, protected manner, corrected; NC/R – repair all wall covering and coving, to be corrected by Dec. 1; NC – need soap available at bar hand sink, to be corrected by Sept. 28; NC – need paper towels available at all hand sinks, to be corrected by Sept. 28; NC – when using three-compartment sink, you must rinse equipment/utensils before sanitizing, to be corrected by Sept. 28; NC – hood above grill needs to be cleaned to remove build-up of grease/grime, corrected by Dec. 1.

Sept. 29

China Inn

Location: 1274 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – need to wash, rinse and sanitize all food prep equipment, to be corrected by Sept. 30; NC/R – food prep sink cannot be used to wash dishes or hands, to be corrected by Sept. 30; NC/R – still gap under door, to be corrected by Dec. 1; NC/R – cover flour, cornstarch and sugar when not in use, to be corrected by Dec. 1; NC/R – need paper towels by hand sinks in kitchen, to be corrected by Sept. 30; NC – some lights not working in kitchen, to be corrected by Dec. 1; NC – clean walk-in cooler door, to be corrected by Dec. 1; C/R – knives on magnetic strip have food debris on them, to be corrected by Nov. 30.
