The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

July 1

Firehouse Subs

Location: 22 E. McClarnon Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – employee cup needs to be covered to protect prep area from contamination, corrected; NC – ice scoop cannot be stored in ice, place in a clean, protected area, corrected; NC – thermometers need to be calibrated to plus or minus 2 degrees in the intended range, to be corrected by July 15; NC – need thermometers in all refrigerated/cooler units, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Circle K

Location: 2243 N. State Road 9, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – sanitizing solution too strong, corrected.

July 5

The Sweet Shop

Location: 1309 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – clean fryer hood and surrounding area of grease, grime and accumulation, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC – gap at back exterior door, replace sweep, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC – clean floors under counters and shelving to remove food debris, clean shelving to removed grease and grime build up, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Java Junction

Location: 222 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Los Maguelles Mexican Restaurant

Location: 222 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – store veggies above raw meats in prep cooler to prevent contamination, to be corrected by July 5; C – queso sauce not hot enough, corrected; C – working spray bottles must be labeled with chemical name, to be corrected by July 5; NC/R –scoops for chips and ice cannot be stored on top of equipment, corrected; NC – when wrapping tableware, tableware must be handled by handle, not lip contact surface, corrected; NC – need to have sanitizing strips available for use, to be corrected by July 15; C – hand sink must be used for hand washing only, remove dirty dishes and clean, corrected; NC/R – repair coving and flooring in kitchen, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Starbucks Coffee Company

Location: 2049 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – hand washing sink in service area is for hand washing only, remove food debris and clean, corrected.
