The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Violations: NC – clean legs of tables and equipment, also wire cart and floor under wire cart, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC – wall behind grill is discolored with burn marks, consider installing more durable, heat-resistant and easily cleanable wall covering behind grill and fryers. Flooring tape coming up, replace or repair by Aug. 1; NC – food thermometers need to be accurate to within plus or minus 2 degrees, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Wal-Mart Super Center

Location: 1965 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C – employees need to be mindful of what they are touching with gloves on. Do not touch boxes, scissors, etc., that are not sanitized and then touch food, corrected; NC – need to have thermometer in hot holding unit affixed so it cannot be knocked off, to be corrected by Aug. 1; C – deli case windows that are opened and closed need to be sanitized every four hours, to be corrected by April 18.

April 12

Pizza Hut

Location: 1010 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C – food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils need to be clean to sight and touch, corrected; NC – paper towels needed at hand-washing sink, corrected; NC – trash receptacle near three-compartment sink needs to be cleaned of food particles and residue build-up, to be corrected by May 12.

Waffle House

Location: 1752 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C – dish machine not reaching sanitizing temperature. Use three-compartment sink to wash, rinse and sanitize until repaired, corrected, service called; C – chili and sausage gravy not hot enough, corrected; NC/R – need to provide thin-tip thermometer for thin patties such as sausage, hamburgers, etc., to be corrected by July 12; NC/R — post permit in public view.
