The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

March 8

Dairy Queen

Location: 801 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: NC — Non-food contact surfaces need to be clean to sight and touch, clean drawers, handles, etc., to be corrected by June 1; C — ready-to-eat potentially hazardous foods need to be date marked when package opened and held over 24 hours, date mark lunch meat when opened, counting the day opened as day one for a maximum of seven days, corrected; NC/R — gap around walk-in freezer door at bottom and sides, ice build up should be removed from floor, needs to be repaired, to be corrected by June 1.

El Jaripeo

Location: 38 W. Main St., New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C — hand washing sinks may not be used for any other use, food should be dumped at dish washing sink, corrected.

Arby’s

Location: 1705 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Greenfield Intermediate School & Harris Elementary

Location: 200 W. Park Ave., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: NC — Freezer door inside release system needs to be repaired, need to have buddy system until repaired, needs a permanent fix, to be corrected by July 1.

Location: 22 E. McClarnon Drive, Greenfield

Location: 222 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C — repair drain from ice machine and drink machine, must have backflow prevention and water is leaking onto floor, floor is starting to come up due to water, to be corrected by March 16; NC — handle of ice scoop in ice and handle of chip scoop is in chips, corrected; NC — door of reach in cooler needs repaired, water temperature at hand sink not hot enough, improper thawing method observed, repair flooring in kitchen.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Jail

Location: 123 E. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C — employees need to wash hands before putting on gloves, corrected; NC — soap dispenser at hand sink needs to be hung on wall, to be corrected by April 2; NC — faucets and pipes under three-compartment sink leaking, freezer door needs to be repaired to prevent mold growing on side of freezer door, wiping cloths needs to be stored in sanitizer between uses, clean air vent in dry storage area.

Huck’s Convenience Food & Fuel

Location: 322 E. Broadway, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C — expired lunch meat in cooler, corrected; NC — clean floors in kitchen to remove food debris in corners, under/by pizza oven, under area where stickers are stored, under three-compartment sink.

Chicago’s Pizza

Location: 1031 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C — Lunch meat needs to be date marked counting day opened/prepped as day one held at 41 degrees for maximum of seven days, corrected and discarded; C — sanitizing solution too strong, corrected; C — store chemicals away from food including ice, corrected; NC — clean coolers, prep coolers, fans in walk-in, shelving for dishes storage, along edges and in corners of floor, etc., to be corrected by June 1.
