Their goal is to end up in an arena filled mostly with darkness.

First, area wrestlers must navigate their way through the sectional, regional and semistate tournaments.

Several grapplers from Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and New Palestine have already made it through the sectional and will be in regional action this weekend at Perry Meridian and Richmond.

The season will ultimately end for the most talented wrestlers Feb. 21 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse with “the spotlight round” — the State Finals championship matches, which take place under a lone illuminated center mat in front of thousands of fans.

Regionals

Date: Saturday.

Admission: $7.

Advancement: The top four place winners in each weight class advance to the semistate tournament.

Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon, New Palestine at Perry Meridian Regional, 9 a.m.

Feeder Sectionals: Indianapolis Arsenal Technical, Warren Central.

Eastern Hancock at Richmond Regional, 9 a.m.

Feeder Sectionals: Shenandoah, South Dearborn.

Perry Meridian Regional and Richmond Regional wrestlers advance to New Castle Semistate, Feb. 21.
