Thomas Scott Petty

Thomas Scott Petty, 52, Indianapolis,  passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2013. He was born March 12, 1961, in Monticello, Ind. to his parents, Jerry Petty and Linda Downey.

He graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1979, excelling in Basketball, Football and Track. Tom was a two-time All-County choice and All-State selection in 1977 and 1978. He was awarded the Marion County Athlete of the Year in 1979. He also set several school records and lettered in all three sports. He went on to pursue his passion and talent for Football at the University of Kentucky, graduating with a degree in Business. His love for the outdoors led him to Colorado and eventually to Nebraska where he started his family and established a successful career. In 2009, he and his family returned to his home state of Indiana. In life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending cherished time with his family, especially his children. He was an avid sports fan and participant. He especially enjoyed attending any High School sporting event. He was an extremely personable individual who did not know a stranger.

He is survived by his mother and father, Jerry Petty and Linda Downey; as well as a stepmother and stepfather; children, Danielle Raine and Cameron Thomas; their mother Tara, of Greenwood; sisters, Kari, Debbie, and Jessica; brother, Tim; in addition to several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends.

Visitation hours will be held from 3 – 5 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2013, with the Memorial Service immediately following at 5 p.m., at Greenwood Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be directed to the Petty Children Educational Fund, C/O Danielle and Cameron Petty, P.O. Box 322, Greenwood IN, 46142. Arrangements are being handled by Bell Mortuary and Crematory.
