GREENFIELD – Work is nearly complete preparing a commercial building for a hardware store, and a developer continues working on plans for other parts of the property.

Great Lakes Ace Hardware will occupy 18,000 square feet on the south end of the approximately 38,000-square-foot building at 1240 N. State St. in Greenfield. The property formerly housed a Sears Hometown Store and before that, a Marsh Supermarket.

Greenfield-based Greenwalt Development, which owns the property and most of the surrounding ones in McKenzie Plaza, signed Great Lakes Ace Hardware as a tenant last year.

“Construction is progressing nicely and we hope to open in the first half of February,” Becky Killarney, director of marketing for Great Lakes Ace Hardware, told the Daily Reporter in an email.

Killarney added the company is recruiting for associates to staff the store.

Aaron Greenwalt, general counsel and business development for Greenwalt Development, told the Daily Reporter in an email that the company continues to work on securing an occupant for the rest of the space.

Greenwalt Development also plans to build a multi-tenant commercial building of several thousand square feet at the southeast corner of the parcel at 1240 N. State St., and a McAlister’s Deli is slated to occupy about 3,430 square feet of it.

Greenwalt said the company is awaiting a building permit for that project.

“As soon as we have that, we plan to move forward as quickly as possible with construction,” he continued, adding he can’t yet comment on additional tenants there.

Great Lakes Ace Hardware has a number of full- and part-time opportunities for its forthcoming Greenfield location. The store manager will have open interviews from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 11, 13, 17, 18 and 20. Full-time positions include service shop coordinator, who is responsible for grill assembly and delivery and screen repairs; B2B champion, who will assist commercial customers in sourcing specific products needed for their business; and sales associate with keys, an entry-level leadership role. Also needed are full- and part-time cashiers and full- and part-time sales associates. More information is available at greatlakesace.com/join-the-great-lakes-ace-team.
