Dragons take fifth at gymnastics regional

INDIANAPOLIS — The New Palestine gymnastics team finished fifth overall during Friday night’s Franklin Central Regional, tallying 101.75 points.

Columbus North won the six-team event with a score of 110.2. Bloomington North (107.225) and Richmond (106.7) finished second and third and will also advance to the IHSAA state finals. Roncalli (104.075) was fourth. Connersville (100.2) placed sixth.

The top-three teams at regional earned automatic invitations to the state finals at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena on Saturday, March 12, in addition to the top-six place winners in each event.

New Palestine senior Kennedy Garrett was 13th in the all-around with a score of 33.775. She was ninth on balance beam (9.05), 17th on floor exercise (8.925), 17th on vault (8.6) and 26th on uneven bars (7.2).

Dragons senior Alyse Rickey placed 16th in the all-around with a score of 32.2. She was 22nd on uneven bars (7.75), 24th on vault (8.4), 25th on balance beam (8.0) and 28th on floor exercise (8.05).

NP junior Addyson Kendall finished 15th on bars (8.15), 16th on balance beam (8.75) and 19th on floor (8.825). Frosh J.J. Fee placed 16th on floor (8.975), 18th on bars (8.075) and 29th on beam (7.275). Emily Hunter placed 27th on vault (8.25) and Chaira Polo 29th on vault (8.175).
