The New Palestine girls golf team traveled to the State Preview invitational in Carmel on Saturday, and they left a lasting impression.

As a team, the Dragons finished 18th overall with a score of 406. Sophomore Annaliese Fox, however, cracked the top-five on the leaderboard as an individual.

The team’s No. 2 golfer shot a solid 74 over 18 holes to tie for fourth at the annual event held at Prairie View Golf Club, which will host the 2017 Indiana High School Athletic Association’s state finals.

Fox’s final tally was four strokes back of the tournament’s individual medalist Danbi Kim of Columbus North.

New Palestine senior Mackenzi Black, a 2016 individual state qualifier, fired an 83. Westfield, who is ranked No. 1 in the latest Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association’s top 20, won the tournament with a 309.

The Dragons return to the course today at home on Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield against Greenwood.

Cougars take fourth

The Greenfield-Central girls golf team played a strong 18-hole round at the Greensburg Invitational on Saturday.

The Cougars finished the 17-team event with a 384, which was good enough to secure fourth overall.

Lindsey McCord led the team with an 89, placing fourth as an individual. Caroline Gibson followed McCord with a 94, and Haley Hoagland shot a personal best 95, which included a pair of birdies.

Phoenix Breese and Rose Gerard also turned in personal bests with 118 and 106, respectively.

Greenfield-Central traveled to Rushville on Monday night.

Marauders battle at Whiteland

The Mt. Vernon girls golf team traveled to the Whiteland Invitational on Saturday and tallied a 496.

The Marauders competed with 17 other teams during the event. The team struggled to their their best, head coach Aaron Shewman remarked, but they learned a lot, which will help as the season progresses.
