Indiana Boys Junior All-Stars announced
Eighteen boys basketball players were selected to the 2017 Indiana Junior All-Stars this week.
The core group includes Romeo Langford of New Albany, Damezi Anderson of South Bend Riley, Aaron Henry of Ben Davis, Eric Hunter of Tindley, Mekhi Lairy of Evansville Bosse, and Robert Phinisee of McCutcheon.
Brian Gibson of Castle will be the head coach of the 2017 Indiana Junior All-Stars, while Barak Coolman of Valparaiso and Kevin Renbarger of Oak Hill will serve as assistants.
The Junior All-Stars will play two games against the Indiana Senior All-Stars this summer. The games will be played on June 6 at New Albany and June 8 at Plainfield. Both dates will be doubleheaders with the Indiana Junior and Senior Girls All-Stars. The girls games will begin at 6 p.m. with the boys games to follow.
The core group players on the Junior All-Stars roster will play in both exhibition contests.

Knight, Harris among IBCA weekly honorees
Maurice Knight of Frankton and Jamal Harris of Crispus Attucks led their teams to State Finals berths, and the senior and Indianapolis junior are two of four players that earned honors as an IBCA Player of the Week.
Knight and Harris are joined by Merrillville junior Johnny Bernard and Castle senior Jack Nunge as recipients for March 13-18 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Vanderwielen to be recognized by IHSAA
Media broadcasting entrepreneur Rick Vanderwielen will be honored with this year’s Distinguished IHSAA Media Service Award for District 2. Vanderwielen’s contributions will be recognized on Saturday at the IHSAA Boys Basketball State Finals.
The Noblesville resident’s dedication to broadcasting high school sports and his service in a consulting capacity have resulted in the creation of IHSAAtv.org and the IHSAA Champions Network.
Vanderwielen is a 1974 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Purdue University in 1978.
