GREENFIELD — Leadership Hancock County’s 20th class has its second-largest enrollment in the program’s history, officials say.
Organizers couldn’t pinpoint what led to the new class’s increase to 25 members — the 2015 class had 15 — but Leadership Hancock County coordinator Dave Hill suggested the 20th anniversary celebration in June could have boosted interest among county residents. This year’s total is just shy of the leadership organization’s highest number of participants — 27 in 1996.
The class will kick off its tenure with a two-day retreat at the Hancock County Public Library on Sept. 15, which will feature community leaders addressing the importance of teamwork, consensus-building and the foundations of strong leadership. The aim of the retreat is to build a sense of teamwork among the students, who come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Classes for the leadership group will be conducted once a month through March. They are currently seeking ideas for group projects to benefit the community, which will be approved and assigned to class groups in December. For more information, visit leadhc.org.
