GREENFIELD — Leadership Hancock County’s 20th class has its second-largest enrollment in the program’s history, officials say.

Organizers couldn’t pinpoint what led to the new class’s increase to 25 members — the 2015 class had 15 — but Leadership Hancock County coordinator Dave Hill suggested the 20th anniversary celebration in June could have boosted interest among county residents. This year’s total is just shy of the leadership organization’s highest number of participants — 27 in 1996.

The class will kick off its tenure with a two-day retreat at the Hancock County Public Library on Sept. 15, which will feature community leaders addressing the importance of teamwork, consensus-building and the foundations of strong leadership. The aim of the retreat is to build a sense of teamwork among the students, who come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

This year’s participants are: Dede Allender, CGS Services; Kate Brown, Hancock Regional Hospital; Robert Caird, Greenfield Banking Co.; Rachel Cremeans, Kindred Healthcare; Matt Davis, Greenfield-Central School Corp.; Rachel Dennis, Alternatives Inc.; Marie Felver, Hancock County Community Foundation; Jennifer Frye, city of Greenfield; Mike Graf; Greenfield Banking Co.; Debbie Grass, Eastern Hancock High School; Summer Grinstead, city of Greenfield; Dawn Hanson, Greenfield-Central School Corp.; Robert Harris, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department; Cindi Holloway, Hancock County Public Library; Regina Jackson, Hancock Regional Hospital; Laurene Lonnemann, Elanco; Nicole Mann, Jane Pauley Center; Jennifer McMillan, NineStar Connect; Aaron O’Connor, Hancock Regional Hospital; Michael Schull, Hancock County Public Library; Monica Sexton, NineStar Connect; Teresa Smith, Hoosier Hear Gear; Kimberly Sombke, Buck Creek Flooring; Jennifer Stanley, Hancock Regional Hospital; and Lisa Thompson, Hancock Regional Hospital.

Classes for the leadership group will be conducted once a month through March. They are currently seeking ideas for group projects to benefit the community, which will be approved and assigned to class groups in December. For more information, visit leadhc.org.
