Pair of area players set for All-Star Classic
Mt. Vernon’s Michael Ertel and Greenfield-Central graduate Tate Hall will participate in the Eighth annual Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic on June 17 and 18.
The two-day basketball showcase will be conducted at Anderson University, with nine games scheduled.
Ertel, who was named to the Indiana Junior All-Star’s south group, will compete with the Junior Boys Team 1 on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
They will face Indiana Junior All-Stars Tyler Smith of Northeastern, Issac Hibbard of New Albany, among others.
Hall, a University of Indianapolis signee, takes the court at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18. This is the former Cougars’ second showcase after appearing in the Hoosiers Reunion Classic last week.
All games can be seen live on broadcastsport.net. Admission is $10 per session for spectators.

Soccer team tryouts planned in Greenfield
The USF Real Soccer Club is conducting its annual team tryouts Monday and Tuesday at Brandywine Park in Greenfield.
Monday’s sessions begin at noon with 19U ’98 and 18U ’99. At 2 p.m. 17U ’00, 16U ’01 and 15U ’02 will tryout. Players for 14U ’03 and 13U ’04 go at 4 p.m. The 12U ’05 and 11U ’06 players will take the field at 6 p.m.
Tuesday’s supplemental sessions consist of 11U ’03 through 14U ’06 at 6 p.m. and 15U ’98 through 19U ’02 at 8 p.m.

Marauders soccer camp approaching
The 17th annual Marauder Youth Soccer Camp runs from July 11 to 15. The event will be conducted on the soccer complex at Mt. Vernon High School.
The camp is designed for boys and girls players in first through eighth grades and is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. each day.
The camp is $60 with payment through check only.
Camp awards and certificates will be presented to participants. Campers also will receive a T-shirt.
Marauder camp director Steve Williams, assistant director Matt Mayhew and Mt. Vernon varsity Players will instruct campers in basic fundamentals.

Mt. Vernon jazz band hosting fundraiser
Mt. Vernon High School’s jazz band will perform at 6:30 p.m. Monday on the Hancock County Courthouse Plaza.
The band will sell concessions and accept donations. The funds raised will go to individual band member accounts.
