GREENFIELD
Herman West Jr., age 89, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024 at Springhurst Health Campus. He was born in Bicknell, Indiana on January 6, 1935 to Herman West Sr. and Susan (Perry) West. He graduated from Bicknell High School. Herman went straight from High School into the Army and served for three years. He was attached to the Army Corp. of Engineers building air bases on Guam. After he was honorably discharged from the service, he continued his education at Purdue University in Indiana and received an Associate degree in Industrial Engineering. He married Nancy Carol (Trimble) West on August 30, 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He worked a variety of jobs, the last being with Thomas & Skinner for a combined forty years as Plant Engineer followed by serving on the Board of Directors. Herman was a member of VFW, a member of the American Legion and attended Trinity Park Church. He enjoyed traveling with his wife. He also cherished his family and loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy West of Greenfield, Indiana; daughter, Susan (Mark) Sternberg of Greenfield, Indiana; son, David (Karen) West of Mississippi; daughter, Becky (Jimmy) Gregory of Greenfield, Indiana; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman West Sr. and Susan (Perry) West; and siblings, Beatrice, Bob and Paul.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will follow visitation at the mortuary.
