FORTVILLE — No. 18 Mt. Vernon had its girls tennis season come to an end in the Mt. Vernon Regional championship match against No. 2 Fishers Wednesday.
The Marauders (15-4) lost 4-1 to the Tigers.
At No. 2 singles, Mt. Vernon got a victory from Ginni Morelli, a 7-6, 6-4 winner over Madelyn Barron.
The next closest match was at No. 3 singles, Maria Downs lost to Isabella Ireland, 6-3, 6-3.
In the No. 1 singles match, Mt. Vernon’s Caroline Allen lost 6-1, 6-2 to Mischa Briggs.
In doubles play, at No. 1, the Marauders combo of Kylie Brandes and Ava Lusby lost for the first time this season. They dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to the Fishers team of Cassandra Maurer and Caroline Ober.
At No. 2 doubles, Sophia Maxwell and Addy Lockwood lost 6-3, 6-1 to Meredith Ober and Emma Beehler.
Fishers advanced to the Center Grove Semi-State and will play Indianapolis Cathedral, a winner over North Central, noon Saturday.
Greenfield-Central’s doubles team of Madison Succaw and Lauren Haffner won in the individual sectional doubles tournament at Mt. Vernon Wednesday.
Succaw/Haffner beat Ella Coddington and Chaia Gardner of Northeastern High School, 6-3, 6-2.
The Cougar combo got to the finals with a win over a team from Tri on Tuesday. Along with a win in a 4-1 loss to Eastern Hancock in the team sectional, the G-C doubles tandem is 3-0 in the postseason and 9-3 overall since they’ve been paired together. Haffner has 16 wins this season in the No. 1 doubles spot.
They will move on to the individual regional at Fishers High School on June 1.
