Dragons win big in sectional opener

NEW PALESTINE — A 10-run first inning got the New Palestine baseball team off to a good start and the Dragons went on to a comfortable 22-0 victory over Muncie Central in the first round of the New Palestine Sectional Wednesday.

New Palestine (22-5) had a six-run fourth inning and two runs each in the second, third and fifth.

Jacob Morris was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Jackson Kamp had a double and three RBI. Wyatt Matheis, Gavin Neal and Liam Atkinson each had two RBI. Trase Quillen had a double and two RBI. Nic Deering had two RBI and three runs scored.

Rigg Mahurin, Henry Thorpe and Morris combined on a one-hitter. They struck out 11.

Muncie Central finished its season 1-15.

New Palestine plays Richmond (13-8) in a sectional semifinal game Saturday at 11 a.m.
