Prep roundup: Royals win slugfest over IPA

Led by a nine-run fifth inning, Eastern Hancock’s baseball team rallied from an 11-8 deficit to defeat Irvington Prep Academy 22-18 Tuesday.

Eastern Hancock (12-18) had 13 hits and committed five errors. IPA (17-5) had 15 hits and made six errors.

Gavin Jenkins, Brayden Sullivan and Carson Borden all homered for the Royals.

Borden and Jenkins had four RBI each. Sullivan drove in three and Caleb Retherford had two RBI.

Jenkins had three hits. Borden, Retherford and Hayden Rouse each had two.

Jenkins scored five runs. Borden, Colton Dishman and Chase Stewart scored three times each. Rouse and Stewart both had two stolen bases.

Both teams scored in every at-bat except for Eastern Hancock’s side in the third.

Eastern Hancock begins play in the Shenandoah Sectional Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Northeastern (15-9).

Cougars lose at HSE

Greenfield-Central’s baseball team ended its regular season Tuesday with a 5-4 loss at Hamilton Southeastern.

HSE (15-13) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game.

Greenfield-Central (11-13) had a 3-1 lead after two and one-half innings.

The Cougars will play in the New Palestine Sectional Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Anderson (11-15).

Boys golf

Mt. Vernon defeats Shelbyville

Mt. Vernon’s boys golf team defeated Shelbyville at Blue Bear Golf Course Tuesday, 159-166.

Brady Pearson and Jace Lugar tied for medalist with 39s. Nils Erkmanis had a 40 and Owen Daugherty carded a 41.

Dragons down Woodmen

New Palestine’s boys golf team was a 159-172 winner over Greenwood Tuesday at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield Golf Course.

Ty Mitchell was match medalist with a 38. Nick Barada and Josiah Kissel each finished with a 40. Jackson Clark had a 41 and Bryce Marrow shot 44.
