Summer art classes available

GREENFIELD – Summer art classes for children are available through Greenfield Parks & Recreation Art Studio.

“Amazing Animals” is the theme of the camp June 10-13; “Squishmallow Madness” is June 24-27; and “Creative Castles” is July 8-11. Classes are 9-11 a.m. for children ages 6-8; and noon to 3 p.m. for children ages 9-12.

The studio is located on the lower level of the Patricia Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St., Greenfield. Pre-registration is required at parks.greenfieldin.org.

Hurst earns degree from Ivy Tech

GREENFIELD – Katherine Hurst of Kennard recently graduated from Ivy Tech Community College with an associate of applied science in business operations, applications and technology.

A Greenfield-Central High School Class of 2008 graduate, Hurst graduated from Ivy Tech Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, was on the dean’s list and was in the Phi Theta Kappa and Kappa Beta Delta honor societies.

Deiter recognized for college success

FORTVILLE – Rhys Deiter of Fortville was recently recognized at Millikin University’s annual honors Convocation and Distinguished Faculty Lecture.

The event April 25 honors faculty, staff and student accomplishments. Deiter was honored with the Thomas W. and Mary R. Adney Memorial Award for a commitment to academic excellence.

Local students graduate from UC

HANCOCK COUNTY – Three students with Hancock County ties recently graduated from the University of Cumberland.

Angela-Marie Sadiqua Fayaz of Greenfield; Hefen He of McCordsville; and Fangzhou Liu of Mccordsville were among the 6,000 students in this year’s graduating class. The university is located in Williamsburg, Ky.

Star Power program honors G-C staff

GREENFIELD – Teachers, principals, coaches, bus drivers and more can be honored through the Star Power program from the Greenfield Central School Foundation.

The GCSF is encouraging the Greenfield-Central community to thank their favorite educators before the school year ends. Visit gcschoolfoundation.com/star-power and fill out an online form. A $10 minimum donation will provide the honoree with a personalized certificate listing their name and special sentiments. All proceeds provide additional resources for G-C teachers, classrooms and students.

Free college courses available this summer

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana high school students grades 9-12 can enroll in free courses this summer at Ivy Tech Community College.

Free summer courses provide an opportunity for students to explore possible career options while earning college credits. Students who qualify for courses will receive free tuition and textbooks, with no limit on the number of courses students can take. To qualify, students must be Indiana residents at any high school, including current eighth graders entering ninth grade, graduating seniors, homeschool students and students at adult high schools.

Swim lesson registration open

GREENFIELD – Swim lessons are available this summer at the city of Greenfield’s public pool at Riley Park.

The Kathy Dowling Aquatic Center is hosting three sessions of swim lessons from June through July. Sessions are scheduled for mornings and evenings; from ages 9 months with parents to children over 10 years old. G-C gala event scheduled

GREENFIELD – The annual Red Letter Gala supporting the Greenfield Central School Foundation is coming up this September.

The event is set for Sept. 28 with dinner, interactive displays from grant recipients, and a Wish Upon A Star display featuring future grant opportunities. New members of the G-C Alumni Hall of Fame also inducted at the event. Sponsorship opportunities are open now.

Firefly educational event planned

GREENFIELD – Learn about fireflies in an event May 25 at Thornwood Nature Preserve Campground.
