Prep roundup: Mt. Vernon’s Lemmon shoots 73 at Players Club

Mt. Vernon freshman Elijah Lemmon tied for 11th with a round of one-over-par 73 at the Muncie Central Boys Golf Invitational at the Players Club Golf Course.

He had the best round for the Marauders, who finished with a 326. Nils Erkmanis shot an 82. Brady Pearson finished with an 83 and Owen Daugherty carded an 88.

Bloomington South won the event with a 289, led by individual champion Happy Gilmore with a four-under-par 68.

Dragons finish third

New Palestine’s boys golf team shot a 341 and finished third in the seven-team Connersville Invitational held Saturday at Willowbrook Country Club.

Josiah Kissel led the Dragons with an 18-hole round of 82. Luke Cofer and Joey McPike each shot 85. Jackson Clark finished with an 89 an Bryce Marrow had a 98.

Softball

New Pal loses in extra innings

In an eight-inning high school softball game at Avon (16-9) Saturday, New Palestine (20-4) lost 7-6.

Paige Ernstes went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBI. Sydney Oliver had a double and scored two runs. Reese Rosenbaum had a double and an RBI. Jersi Gross had a double, RBI and scored a run. Payton Dye had two hits and Katie Hirschy had a hit and an RBI.

MV goes 1-1 in invitational

Mt. Vernon (8-14) went 1-1 Saturday at the Mt. Vernon Softball Invitational.

The Marauders opened with a 4-2 win over Elwood and lost 6-4 to Rising Sun.

Against Elwood, Graci Hines threw six innings and struck out nine. She gave up four hits and two earned run.

Easton Wampler had a hit and two RBI. Shelby Rakosky had two hits, an RBI and two stolen bases. Ainsley Baer and Hannah Matthews each had a hit and a run scored.

Versus Rising Sun, Baer had three hits. Emma Jenkins had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

Rakosky had two hits and a run. Easton Wampler had a triple and RBI.

Cougars lose finale

In the softball team’s final regular season game, Greenfield-Central (11-11) lost 4-3 to visiting East Central (17-9) Saturday.

Leilani Forshey had two hits including a solo home run, her 12th homer of the season. Charlotte Riehle had two hits. Ailea Dowdy had a hit and an RBI and threw two innings of scoreless relief.

LeiLeanna Faitele had an RBI. Both Makenna Rankins and Selah Vahle had one hit and scored a run. Alyssa Greenwalt added a hit.

Madysen Herbert was the losing pitcher. She threw five innings and gave up only one earned run. She struck out three and walked seven.

Baseball

Royals swept by Blackford

Eastern Hancock (11-17) was swept in a doubleheader against Blackford Saturday.

The Royals baseball team lost by scores of 7-4 and 14-1.

In the opener, the game was tied 3-3 until Blackford scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Gavin Jenkins had two hits, including a double, scored two runs and stole two bases. Brayden Sullivan had a hit and two RBI. Hayden Rouse had a triple and RBI.

In the 14-1 loss, Chase Stewart went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Carson Borden had a hit, scored a run and stole two bases.
