Prep roundup: Marauders drop finale to Carmel

Mt. Vernon (18-7) lost 6-2 to visiting Carmel (17-10) in its final regular-season baseball game of the year Monday.

The Marauders out-hit the Greyhounds 6-5.

Josh James had two hits, stole three bases and scored both Mt. Vernon runs.

Will Jacobs, DJ Scheumann and Nathan Criss each had doubles. Criss and Scheumann had an RBI each.

Jacobs had two hits.

Jack Peine took the loss on the mound. He threw three innings, gave up five hits, four earned runs and walked three. He had two strikeouts. In relief, Cade Taylor threw four no-hit innings, gave up two runs, one earned, and walked five.

Mt. Vernon begins play in the New Palestine Sectional Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Pendleton Heights (16-10).

Royals lose in extra innings

Wes-Del (11-10, 5-3) scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Eastern Hancock (11-18, 4-4) in a Mid-Eastern Conference baseball game in Gaston, Monday, 8-7.

For Eastern Hancock, Hayden Rouse had a home run, two RBI and scored two runs. Caleb Retherford had three hits, including a double, and three RBI. Gavin Jenkins had two hits, stole a base and scored two runs. Brayden Sullivan had a hit and scored two runs. Jalen Helderbrand had an RBI and Colton Dishman scored a run. Carson Borden had a hit and a stolen base. Conner Wittgren had a hit.

Dishman suffered the loss in relief of Aidan Morris.

Dishman threw two innings, gave up three runs, two earned, walked two and struck out three.

Morris gave up 10 hits and five runs in five innings. He walked three.
