HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis woman is facing serious felony charges associated with a violent incident in late April.

Asha Marie Abdou, 40, 900 block of Hardin Boulevard has been arrested and charged with a Level 3 felony count of criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony count of domestic battery with bodily injury on a pregnant woman, a Level 5 felony count of domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony count of confinement and a Level 6 felony count of domestic battery-prior from an incident April 30.

Abdou had an initial appearance in Hancock County Superior Court 1 on Monday where Judge D.J. Davis set a $12,000 cash bond and put a no contact order in place. Abdou entered a not guilty plea and told the court she would hire her own attorney. Court records show she’s due back in court Wednesday, May 29 for a pretrial conference.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officials from the McCordsville Police Department were called to the West Fox Chase Lane apartment for an intoxicated subject around 2 a.m. April 30. The caller, who was later identified as the victim, stated a woman who is a relative was intoxicated and under the influence of cocaine.

The victim told dispatch Abdou started to attack her and stabbed her in the back, the report stated. Dispatch advised the call then disconnected and they could not get stabbing victim back on the line. When police arrived, the victim told officials Abdou was in the apartment and she was quickly taken into custody.

According to the report, the victim showed officials a small laceration in the small of her back. The laceration broke the skin of the victim and lined up with her spine. The victim’s injury was consistent from being stabbed with the tip of a knife, officials said in the report. The victim was treated at the scene and required no further treatment.

The report stated that the victim also told officials she was seven weeks pregnant, something the victim said Abdou knew about.

The victim stated she lived alone and Abdou, a relative, was picked up to hang out with her, but Abdou ended up stabbing her despite the victim trying to leave the situation when things started to escalate, the report stated.

According to the report, the victim noted she tried to leave but Abdou began hitting her and blocked her from leaving. The victim said she thought Abdou was going to kill her and stated “she kept coming at me and charging me. I was about to set the apartment on fire, that’s how serious it was … She kept coming toward me. I felt like my life was in danger and I didn’t want her to stab me again.”

Officials noted in the report Abdou smelled like she was intoxicated and had a difficult time understanding questions from the officers.

“Abdou’s behavior was consistent with somebody who is high on narcotics,” officials said in the report. Officials then stated they observed a busted glass smoking pipe with burnt residue sitting in the sink.

“A glass smoking pipe is a common way of ingesting crack cocaine,” officials said in the report.
