Tiquest Jaquan Meyers, 25, Indianapolis, is the suspected triggerman from a Mother’s Day shooting in Fortville in 2022. He and officials have reached a plea agreement in the case.

HANCOCK COUNTY — It looks like the Indianapolis man who was accused of shooting another man in McCordsville on Mother’s Day in May of 2022 will avoid a jury trial if the court accepts a pending plea deal.

Tiquest Jaquan Meyers, 25, 5100 block of E. 42nd Street has been charged with a Level 1 felony count of attempted murder and a Level 5 felony count of criminal recklessness where a defendant shoots a firearm into a building from an incident on May 8, 2022.

The shooting, where multiple shots were fired into a McCordsville home, left one man critically injured after he was shot in the face. The victim has since made a full recovery.

According to police reports, officials were called to the 400 block of Thomas Point Drive, Fortville on May 8, 2022 with reports of shots fired. Investigators took reports from witnesses who said a car pulled up to a house in the 300 block of Park Creek Lane and opened fire on an individual in the subdivision.

Due to the fact the victim who was shot is a childhood friend of Meyers and is currently an inmate in the Marion County Jail — plus is not a willing witness — officials from the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office tell the Daily Reporter a determination was made to work out a plea agreement rather than go to trial.

According to the plea agreement, which was signed by both sides late last week, Meyers will withdraw his former plea of “not guilty” to the current charges and enter a “guilty” plea to a lesser crime — a Level 3 felony count of aggravated battery. According to the plea agreement, the sentence shall be no more than 10 years with the duration of the executed sentence to be no less than five years, but no more than seven years. How the rest of the 10-year term is to be served will be determined by the court.

While it appears the jury trial which was slated for mid-May in Hancock County Superior Court 1 will be cancelled, it will be up to Judge D.J. Davis as to whether or not the plea deal is approved.

Court records show Meyers is scheduled to be back in court Wednesday, April 24 for a final pre-trial hearing. That’s when officials say the plea-agreement, which has been officially filed, will be discussed.

According to reports on the case, an investigation by officials from the Fortville Police Department linked the victim to Meyers, who was referred to as “Phats.” Officials were able to find text messages between the two men as well as messages from the victim texting to another, “Phats shot me,” the affidavit states.

A witness told officials he observed a male (later identified as Meyers) park his vehicle outside the residence at the 300 block of Park Creek, the affidavit said. The witness then told officials, according to the report, that Myers exited his vehicle from the driver’s side door and began shooting seven to 10 rounds toward the residence where the victim was located in the 300 block of Park Creek. The witness stated three to four more gunshots were fired from the victim toward Meyers, followed by two to three more rounds shot by Meyers standing outside of his vehicle.

The affidavit stated the victim was shot in the right corner of his mouth and suffered a fractured jawbone surrounded by numerous bullet fragments. However, officials told the Daily Reporter the victim has recovered from the shooting with little or no issues.
