Students inducted into National Technical Honor Society

FORTVILLE – Outstanding career and technical students at Mt. Vernon High School were honored earlier this month as the newest inductees into the National Technical Honor Society.

Eleven criminal justice students, nine students from Mt. Vernon High School and two students from New Palestine High School, were inducted for membership based on their skill development and academic achievement in their career and technical courses. Students must meet the rigorous academic standards established within the NTHS to be inducted.

Since 1984, NTHS has been the honor society for Career and Technical Education, serving high schools, career centers, community and technical colleges, and universities. Recognizing over 50,000 new members annually, NTHS exists to advocate for and empower all students to pursue the technical and academic skills needed to build their careers and a skilled global workforce, according to a press release.

New inductees at Mt. Vernon High School/Hancock County Career Center included Joseph Buchanan, Alexandria (Allie) Jenson, Kelsi Johnson, Dezi Lehr, Nathan Sloffer, Jailyn Stockton, Tyler Stoltman, Hanna Walton, Nevaeh Weaver, Isabelle (Izzy) Napier (NPHS) and Julia Vandervort (NPHS).

MV preschool enrollment open

FORTVILLE – Registration is open for the Mini-Marauder Preschool for the 2024-2025 school year

The program is for children ages 3, 4 and 5 in pre-kindergarten. The academic day runs 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.; a limited number of aftercare spots are available from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

K101 returns this summer

GREENFIELD – A free, week-long experience helping youngsters prepare for kindergarten returns this summer.

Kindergarten 101 is July 22-26 at JB Stephens Elementary School, 1331 N. Blue Road, Greenfield. Students enrolling in the 2024-25 school year will be able to participate in common kindergarten activities, such as lunch, recess, small group activities, daily read-alouds and more. The goal is to install a love of learning and excitement to prepare for a successful school year.

MV seeks residence documents from students

FORTVILLE – Mt. Vernon Community Schools are requesting parents and guardians of kindergarteners through 11th grade to upload a new proof of residency in their Skyward Family Access portal this month.

The state requires all school districts to have a valid proof of residency on file and the MV district is preparing for an expected data audit. Proof of residency documents require one of the following: residential building permit; rental agreement or mortgage statement; property tax statement or title document; voter registration card; or two types of utility bills dated within 60 days of submission.

For assistance uploading proof of residency, parents and guardians can take their documents to one of their schools or attend one of these information events where Spanish translators will be in attendance: 4-6:30 p.m. April 23 at Mt. Comfort Elementary School; and 4-6:30 p.m. April 24 at Mt. Vernon Middle School.

Pyle, Greulich graduate from principal program

HANCOCK COUNTY – At least two local principals graduated this spring from the Indiana Principal Leadership Institute.

Sarah Greulich, principal of Harris Elementary School in Greenfield; and Amanda Pyle, principal of Eastern Hancock Elementary School, both graduated from the program.

ILPI is a two-year institute through Indiana State University designed to address the professional needs of active Indiana principals with an emphasis on student success. About 50-60 principals participate each year. For more, visit indianapli.org.
