CARTHAGE

Gina Sexton of Carthage, Indiana community, passed away in Greenfield, Indiana on March 24, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1965, and in 1976, her family relocated to Rock Island, Illinois, where Gina spent her formative years.

Gina was a proud graduate of Alleman High School in Rock Island, Illinois, where she made lifelong friendships. Continuing her educational journey, she graduated from Black Hawk College.

In 1985, Gina exchanged vows with Jim Sexton of Rock Island, IL. Though their paths diverged in 1992, their shared memories remained cherished. Gina found immense joy in her two great loves throughout her life: her treasured friends and her beloved pets. She had a profound affinity for animals, welcoming cats, dogs, chickens, pigs, ducks, and goats into her home over the years.

Gina’s heart overflowed with happiness when surrounded by her friends, as she cherished every moment spent creating lasting memories together. Her warm spirit and infectious laughter endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Gina’s life was deeply impacted by the loss of her father, Dene Chandler, in 2014. Though he preceded her in death, his memory remained a guiding light in her life.

Gina leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She is survived by her loving mother, Shirley Chandler, her sister Tina (Dave) Crosby, and her nieces Holly (Ross) Nordenberg and Stacey (Andrew) Ballard, along with four great nieces: Gwen, Gia, Hannah, and Myra.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gina’s honor to Greenfield Hancock Animal Management, located at 740 S. Franklin St., Greenfield, IN. This gesture will honor Gina’s passion for animal welfare and continue her legacy of compassion.
