McCordsville man facing domestic violence charges

HANCOCK COUNTY — A McCordsville man is facing six domestic violence and resisting arrest charges including a charge for hurting a minor from an incident in mid-March.

Jeff Paul Roberson, 34, 6200 block of North Woodbury Drive has been charged with a Level 5 felony count of Criminal Confinement with bodily injury; a Level 6 felony count of Domestic Battery on a Person Less than 14 Years; a Level 6 felony count of Strangulation; a Level 6 felony count of Domestic Battery committed in the presence of a child and two different Class A misdemeanor counts of resisting law enforcement and interference with the reporting of a crime on March 17.

Roberson made his initial appearance in Hancock County Circuit Court on March 22 where the court set $6,000 cash bond and set forth a no contact order. Arrest records show Roberson was arrested again Friday, March 29 and is being held under preliminary charges of violation of order to stay away from a specific area.

As for the incident on March 17, according to a probable cause affidavit, officials from the McCordsville Police Department were dispatched to the North Woodbury Drive area for a report of battery. The report noted there was an issue with a woman at a home in there and a young child under 5-years-old.

According to the report, a woman told officials Roberson busted her in the mouth, threw her down and broke her phone to keep her from calling police. She however, was able to get away from Roberson and went to a neighbor’s house who alerted the police.

The victim told officials Roberson had also put his hands on her mouth and face making it difficult for her to breath, the report stated. The victim also told officials Roberson had shoved the small child and she was worried for the child’s safety since he was still in the house with the child after she fled.

Police went into the home and found Roberson on a bed with the child asleep beside him, the report stated. Officials got the small child out of the house and attempted to arrest Roberson, who resisted, the report stated. Roberson told officials he had been drinking and further questioning from police found he was on probation.

The victim told officials she and Roberson had gotten into a fight earlier in the night and he hit her and abused her in front of the child and then slapped her again when she threatened to turn him in to police, the report stated. The victim also stated in the report Roberson had pushed the child to the ground when the child tried to stop Roberson from beating the victim.

Officials noted they called the Department of Child Services due to the child being in the residence, seeing the fight and being shoved to the ground.
