Prep Roundup: G-C, MV softball drop road games

Greenfield-Central’s softball team dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 10-4 loss at Hamilton Southeastern (3-0) Tuesday.

The Royals did their damage early with a 4-run first inning and 5-run third inning.

For the Cougars, Savvanna Riall, Allison Hornaday and Josie White each had two hits. Riall, Hornaday, Makenna Rankins and Charlotte Riehle all drove in runs. White, Riall, Rankins and Alyssa Greenwalt all scored runs.

In two games, Riall is 4-for-6 with three RBI.

Rankins, Greenwalt, Riehle and Kristen Wineinger also added to the Cougars 10-hit attack.

Freshman pitcher Ailea Dowdy took the loss.

G-C opens the home portion of its schedule Thursday at 7 p.m. against Noblesville (2-1).

Marauders drop opener

Mt. Vernon’s softball team opened its season Tuesday at Zionsville with an 11-5 loss.

Zionsville broke a 2-2 tie with a seven-run fifth inning and added two more in the sixth.

Mt. Vernon’s seventh-inning rally fell short, scoring three runs.

Shelby Rakosky had two of the Marauders five hits. She had a triple, three RBI and a run. Hannah Matthews scored two runs. Ainsley Baer, Emery Wampler and Emma Jenkins each had hits. Baer also had an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Aubrey Lowe suffered the loss.

The Marauders (0-1) are back in action tonight at Carmel first pitch was scheduled for 6 p.m.

Boys volleyball

Dragons defeated by Westfield

New Palestine’s boys volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Westfield last Thursday by set scores of 25-8, 25-16, 25-17.

For the Dragons, Jaxon Hinkle had five kills. Dontae Thompson was part of two blocks, including one solo. Chase Emberton had six digs. Setter Kameron Engle had 13 assists.

The Dragons are 2-3 and play their next match April 3, at home, against Noblesville.
