GREENFIELD – The local chapter of Psi Iota Xi is proud to announce its first three awards of scholarships to local educators for continuing education.

The Upsilon chapter of the sorority awarded continuing education scholarships for the first time this year. Winners were Rachel Long, an art teacher at New Palestine Intermediate School; Rebecca Darling, a speech language pathologist at Weston Elementary School; and Elizabeth Lawson, a library assistant at Greenfield Central Junior High School.

Long was awarded $100 to help cover the costs of attending the Arts Education Association of Indiana Conference.

“This has been my first conference that I was able to attend and connect with other art teachers because of the grant from Psi Iota Xi,” said Long in a press release. “At the conference, I was able to gain more knowledge teaching ceramics in the classroom, modern art history, and printmaking skills led by other art teachers in the state.”

Rebecca Darling was granted $99 to help cover costs associated with her CEU annual membership. Speech language pathologists in Indiana must complete 36 hours of continuing education every two years at their own expense to maintain their credentials.

Elizabeth Lawson was given $100 to help cover the costs of a course toward her degree at IUPUI’s Master of Library and Information Science program.

“I manage the library and act as a book matchmaker, connecting students with stories that speak to them,” said Lawson. “Psi Iota Xi’s generous scholarship will help fund my upcoming course in Information Sources and Services. I am truly grateful for the investment in my education.”

Applicants must be local educators at Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, or New Palestine schools seeking reimbursement for continuing education in the areas of speech and hearing and art, literature, and music.

Interested applicants can contact Laura Fletcher at [email protected] to discuss a continuing education need. Awards are made on a reimbursement basis up to $100.
