Prep roundup: Eastern drops season opener

Eastern Hancock’s softball team lost its season and home opener 14-7 to Class 4A Brownsburg Tuesday.

The Royals got down early, 9-0, and, after a four-run sixth inning, cut the Bulldogs lead to 12-7.

Brownsburg took control with a seven-run second inning.

The Bulldogs had 14 runs, 19 hits and committed three errors. The Royals’ seven runs came on eight hits and they also had three errors.

Eastern Hancock’s Hannah Wittgren and Sammie Bolding each hit home runs. Bolding had two of the team’s eight hits, drove in two runs and scored twice. Brooklyn Willis and Emily Hodges each had doubles. Willis had two RBI and two runs scored.

The Royals are back in action April 9 at Monroe Central in the Mid-Eastern Conference opener.

Boys volleyball

Dragons win at BG

New Palestine’s boys volleyball team evened its record with a 3-0 victory at Beech Grove (0-4) Tuesday.

The Dragons won by set scores of 25-12, 25-11, 25-7 to improve to 2-2 on the season.

It was New Palestine’s first road match of the year. The Dragons won their season opener in four sets over Covenant Christian last Monday before falling to Southport (25-14, 25-8, 25-10) last Tuesday and Franklin (25-10, 25-16, 25-16) on Thursday.

New Palestine (2-2) is back in action Thursday with a home match against Westfield (5-1).
