84, of Fountaintown, passed away March 2, 2024. She was born April 25, 1939, in Lawrence to the late Delbert Marion and Bertha Waneita (Greenwood) Lakin. Darlene was a 1957 graduate of Lawrence Central High School. She married William Charles Grein, January 21, 1961, and he preceded her in death April 9, 1994. Darlene was the owner/operator of Free To Be Charter Buses, Inc., where she enjoyed traveling to many destinations. She was also a dedicated and devoted Girl Scout Leader for more than 30 years. Fondly known as “Butterfly” Darlene co-directed Girl Scout Day Camp at Camp Ada for 20 years. She also drove a school bus for Northwestern Consolidated Schools (Triton Central Schools) for 25 years.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 East Washington Street. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Darlene is survived by her children, Mary Grein and Karl Grein; sisters, Donna King and Karen McQueary; grandchildren, Sterling, Gavin, Bryce, Jakob, and Tristan; great grandson, Jemuel; and her beloved dog, Ebony. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Grein.
