Royals win final MEC game

MODOC — Eastern Hancock’s boys basketball team finished Mid-Eastern Conference play Wednesday with an 80-21 victory at Union (Modoc).

The Royals finished MEC play 6-3 and tied for third place with Daleville. Wapahani and Shenandoah were playing Friday night for first place. Union finished last in the 10-team league with an 0-9 record.

On Wednesday, Eastern pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Union 28-8 to take a 43-12 halftime lead.

The Royals hit 12 3-point field goals. Luke Schilling made four triples and led the team in scoring with 20 points. Kayden Ruble hit three treys and had 18 points. Caden Powers hit a pair of 3s and scored 10 points.

The win improved Eastern Hancock’s record to 11-10. Union dropped to 3-14.

All 12 Royals that played scored. Myles Wennen and Caiden Willis had eight and six points, respectively. Garrett Shaw, Eli Manship, Zach Stephens and Caleb Retherford each scored three points. Charlie Halcomb, Luke Morris and Ethan Carter had two points apiece.

Union was led by Lamar Schwartz with 14 points.
