GREENFIELD

Sherman James Harvey, 97, of Greenfield passed away on February 6, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Sherman was born on August 3, 1926 in Indianapolis to the late Gustavus James and Pauline (Bryant) Harvey. He married his loving wife, Frances Louise White, and the two were married for 51 years. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged in 1945. After his time in the military, he began working as a postal worker, then Eli Lilly, and finally to Chrysler New Castle in 1954 where he made his way to Superintendent of Maintenance before retiring after 33 years. After retirement, he began working at Harvey Sales and Services with his brother, Wilbur and nephew, Mark, he worked there for 10 years. He found his spiritual home at Center Christian Church and was a faithful member for many years. Sherman was a member of the American Legion Post 152, National Rifle Association, and the Muzzle Loading Club. He enjoyed RC airplanes and was a part of the Blue River Valley RC Club. Sherman was a leather worker and made sure everything he created was absolutely perfect, especially his muzzle loading rifles. Some would say he was a perfectionist when it came to his creations. Something Sherman was very proud of was the fact he parachuted out of an airplane at the age of 95!
