Daddy Daughter Dance returns April 6

GREENFIELD – “To the moon and back” is the theme of a Daddy Daughter Dance April 6 in Greenfield.

Greenfield Parks and Recreation is hosting the April 6 events, which are 3-5 p.m. for girls ages 3-6, and 6-8 p.m. for girls ages 7-12. The event will be at the Boys & Girls Club, 715 E. Lincoln St., Greenfield. Cost is $35 for residents, $37 for non-residents, $10 off a second ticket. Pre-registration is required at parks.greenfieldin.org. Children’s gardening programs coming up

CARTHAGE – The Hancock County Master Gardener Association will provide a family event at a neighboring community library.

“Winter Sowing for Kids” is set for 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Henry Henley Public Library, 102 N. Main St., Carthage.

A second event is scheduled for the same library, called “Get Your Hands Dirty” to teach children how to plant and care for seedlings April 13.

Black History Month art series scheduled

GREENFIELD – Celebrate Black artists in a February children’s art series in honor of Black History Month.

The classes are hosted by Greenfield Parks & Recreation Art Studio, located in the lower level of the Patricia Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St., Greenfield.

Art projects will be inspired by artists like Reginald Laurent, Charles McGee, Kehinde Wiley and Etta Raulet. Classes are for ages 5-13 and will be at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 7, 14 and 21. Pre-registration is required at parks.greenfieldin.org.

New children’s art club offered

GREENFIELD – A Crafty Kids Club will be hosted in downtown Greenfield from January through April.

Hancock County Creations Art Studio will host the club for ages 8 to 14. Children will explore painting with acrylic, watercolor, ink, coffee and wine, as well as a variety of other crafts. Lego club coming to Fortville

FORTVILLE – A Lego Club is starting up at Fortville Elementary School, sponsored by the Vernon Township Public Library.

Students may stay after school every first and third Wednesday of the month for building, games, challenges and a small snack.

King essay contest open

INDIANAPOLIS – The 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest is open, inviting students in grades 6-12 to submit an essay by Feb. 29.

The program is free through the Department of Student Programs, a division of the Indiana Association of School Principals. Students are asked to write their essays based on the following King quote: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
