Cosmic art contest announced

GREENFIELD – Cosmic-themed art is sought for an upcoming display in Depot Street Park.

Greenfield Parks and Recreation recently announced a 2024 Cosmic Art Callout in honor of the upcoming solar eclipse. Art will be judged by age category (students and adults), and winners will have their art on display all year at Depot Street Park.

Art will be accepted until March 8 at the parks office, 280 Apple St., Greenfield, weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Artwork must be original, and three submissions can be accepted per person.

Mardi Gras fundraiser Feb. 9

GREENFIELD – Mardi Gras Bingo is coming to St. Michael Catholic Church and School as a fundraiser.

The event is at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9. Tickets are $50 until Feb. 2 and $55 after. Reserve a table of eight for $450. Tickets include dinner, drinks and 10 Bingo games; extra Bingo sheets and daubers are available for an additional fee. Participants must be at least 21 to attend. Tickets may be purchased after any weekend Mass at the church or in the Parish office, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield.

Tax help available to those who qualify

INDIANAPOLIS – Free tax help to people who generally make $60,000 or less is available through Indiana 211.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration recently announced free, confidential help available 24/7 for those who need assistance during tax season.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is available to those who make $60,000 or less, people with disabilities, the elderly and limited English-speaking taxpayers. Through VITA, volunteers certified with the IRS provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Call 2-1-1 for more information.

McCordsville offering free eclipse glasses

MCCORDSVILLE – McCordsville residents may pick up free solar eclipse glasses at town hall.

The glasses are for the upcoming total solar eclipse April 8. Free glasses to protect the eyes while viewing the eclipse are available for McCordsville residents while supplies last at 62880 W. 800N., McCorsdsville. Town hall is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Budgeting, debt management workshop Jan. 31

GREENFIELD – Financial wellness and tips on frugal living, eliminating debt and more will be in an upcoming workshop at the Hancock County Public Library.

“Budgeting and Debt Management” will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the central library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Christa Cummings, client relationship representative at first Merchants Bank, will discuss several topics. A graduate of New Palestine High School, Butler University and Indiana University at Indianapolis, Cummings is a Greenfield resident with more than 20 years of banking experience.
