GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man is facing felony drug charges after law enforcement officials have identified him as a drug dealer, stemming from several undercover drug sells in May and June of 2023, court records show.

Greg A. Unger, 57, 1600 block of Bayberry Drive, has been in the county jail since Jan. 3 when he was arrested and charged with a Level 6 felony count of possession of methamphetamine. That case is pending in Hancock County Superior Court 2, court records show.

On Jan. 16, a different case was opened against Unger in Hancock County Circuit Court where he has been officially charged with a Level 2 felony count of dealing methamphetamine as well as three different Level 4 felony counts of dealing methamphetamine. The most serious charge can carry anywhere from 10 to 30 years in prison.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officials from the Greenfield Police Department conducted several controlled narcotics purchases involving Unger in 2023 after he agreed to meet with a confidential source in Hancock County.

In the first of the drug deals, Unger agreed to meet the confidential source to sell what officials call an “eight-ball” of methamphetamine in exchange for money in May of 2023, officials said. The substance, officials noted, field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 3.6 grams, the affidavit said.

A second purchase was arranged with Unger in mid-June of 2023 for the same type of purchase, officials noted. The substance from that purchase field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 3.9 grams, the affidavit said.

Officials set up a third buy between late June and early July of 2023, the affidavit said, for another “eight-ball” of methamphetamine in exchange for money. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 4.7 grams.

During this investigation, officials noted that Unger consistently sold differing amounts of methamphetamine. “It is clear from the investigation that Mr. Unger is involved in ongoing criminal activity and drug and narcotic sales,” the affidavit stated.

Officials went on to say that during each of the controlled buys Unger was positively identified by law enforcement officers familiar with him from prior professional interaction.

At look into Unger’s records show he was arrested in the summer of 2016 for dealing methamphetamine and was charged with six different crimes. That case court, records show, ended in a plea agreement with four of the six charges getting dismissed.

Court records show Unger was given a two-year term in the county jail and was allowed to take part in a work release program once he completed an educational counseling program.

Unger was scheduled to make an initial appearance for the most current charges in circuit court late Thursday afternoon.
