Cookie Walk going on today

GREENFIELD — The annual Cookie Walk begins at 10 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 16) at Bradley United Methodist Church, 210 W. Main St. Buy treats from a selection of homemade cookies, candies and breads. Proceeds benefit mission projects.

Bible read-aloud to feature Gospel of Mark

CUMBERLAND — The monthly community Bible read-aloud series continues at Heather Hills Baptist Church with the Gospel of Mark.

Readings will take place at noon Monday and 7 p.m. Wednesday. Past Bible read-alouds have typically lasted about an hour. It takes one hour, 23 minutes, to read through Mark in one sitting, but the group read the first part of the book in November.

Church leaders say anyone is welcome to come join in the reading, or simply listen. The church is located at 1421 N. German Church Road, Indianapolis.

Children to present program

GREENFIELD — A children’s Christmas program is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, 200 W. McKenzie Road. Advent Evening Prayer will also be taking place that evening.

Presbyterian Women selling cookbooks

McCORDSVILLE — The Presbyterian Women of Christ Presbyterian Church are selling cookbooks.

CUMBERLAND — St. John United Church of Christ will serve a free community meal from 5-6:30 p.m. Dec. 21. The church is located at 11910 E. Prospect St. Everyone is welcome.

Choirs present cantatas Sunday

Two local choirs will perform Christmas cantatas Sunday.

-The Chancel Choir will present “Rhapsody in Bluegrass” at 9:45 a.m. at Bradley United Methodist Church, 210 W. Main St. This cantata by Joseph Martin is “based on American folk songs, spirituals, bluegrass-styled carols and original gospel songs,” according to the church website.

Services offer support amid heartache, struggle

Several churches offer support groups or services to help people experiencing loss to navigate the holiday season. These services are open to the community. Two such services are still coming up:

Blue Christmas Worship, 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church, 3519 S. County Road 600W, New Palestine. Those who go are also invited to a meal at 6 p.m.
