Festival of Christmas Trees this month

GREENFIELD – The Twenty North Gallery in downtown Greenfield features the Festival of Christmas Trees this month.

Several businesses and nonprofit organizations have decorated a tree in the gallery. Vote for your favorite and two winners will be announced December 16. Trees are by Bentley’s Buddies & Friends, the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home, Changing Footprints, Dr. Georgia Knotek, Brandywine Winds, KidsPlay Inc., Brooke Palmer State Farm, and NineStar Connect. The gallery also has an artisan shoppe, as well as a display of “Gone But Not Forgotten,” artistic scenes and people from the past.

The gallery is located at 20 N. State St., Greenfield. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Visit hancockcountyarts.org for more.

Advent calendar program encourages giving

FORTVILLE – Fortville Area Resource Mission is encouraging the community to have a “Reverse Advent Calendar” this year. Each day of December, put an item in a bag for the FARM Mission and pray for the families living in Vernon Township. A gift for Dec. 9, for example, would be a can of mixed vegetables; Dec. 10, macaroni and cheese.

Homemakers host free Christmas movie event

GREENFIELD – A free Christmas movie night for the community is coming up Dec. 13 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts.

The Hancock County Extension Homemakers are hosting “Home Alone 2” at 6 p.m. followed by “White Christmas.” The theater is located at 122 W. Main St., Greenfield. Participants are encouraged to bring their own snacks.

Dining event for humane society

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Humane Society will benefit from a Dine to Donate event this week.

Leo’s Market & Eatery, 2212 W. Main St., Greenfield, will donate 20% of Eatery purchases to the organization from 3-7 p.m. Dec. 8.

Bell ringing events coming up

GREENFIELD – Several bell-ringing events are coming up, benefiting Salvation Army.

December 2 is fire safety day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Dec. 8, the Greenfield Police Department and Hancock County Sheriff’s Department will have a ring-off from 4-8 p.m. The Grinch will appear from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 16 and 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 23. All events are at Walmart, 1945 N. State St., Greenfield.

Volunteers wanting to ring bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign can sign up at registertoring.com. All funds raised during the campaign stay in Hancock County to help families in need. People can sign up as individuals, families, school groups or church groups.
