Weekend Roundup: Dragons fall to hot-shooting Warriors

Senior Vivian Miller scored a career-best 21 points, including 19 in the second half — 12 in the third quarter — but it wasn’t quite enough in a 59-58 loss at Whiteland Saturday.

Whiteland (3-4) hit 11 3-point field goals and needed every one of them to knock off the New Palestine girls basketball team.

For the Dragons, Allie Blum added 15. Kylee Beranek scored eight and Sadey Hughbanks chipped in eight points.

Kendra Moore scored five first-quarter points.

The Dragons (2-5) open Hoosier Heritage Conference play Tuesday at New Castle.

New Pal’s Wagner-Gilbert wins at The Gobbler

New Palestine’s June Wagner-Gilbert won the 144-class title at The Gobbler Invitational at Southport High School Saturday.

Wagner-Gilbert won five matches to claim the title. Three of the wins were by fall. She beat teammate Ella Morris by a 6-1 decision in the championship match.

Team-wise, New Palestine finished fourth, scoring 99 points. Franklin Central won with 137.5.

Ezra Wagner earned a third-place finish at 134. Julia Champ was fourth at 165.

Girls swimming

G-C defeats FC

The Greenfield-Central girls swimming and diving team defeated host Franklin Central last week 116-69.

The Cougars took first in nine out of 12 events.

Cece Johnson (200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle), Taylor Parsons (100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke) and Alyssa Osborn (200-yard IM, 100-yard breaststroke) each won two individual events. Rachel Stutz won the 100-yard freestyle.

Two relay teams won races, the 200-yard freestyle group of Osborn, Selah Vahle, Johnson and Stutz, and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Stutz, Johnson, Vahle and Osborn.

Boys swimming

G-C swimmers lose to Flashes

The Greenfield-Central boys’ swimming and diving team lost 126-56 at Franklin Central last week.

Freshman Tyler Mullen won the 500-yard freestyle. The team of Isaac Johnson, Jon Grimes, Colten Mayberry and Aiden Michael won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Royals fall to Tigers

Eastern Hancock’s boys wrestling team lost 45-34 to Alexandria last week.

Eastern Hancock won six matches. Cameron Volz (138), Kolton Gilbreath (150), Gabe Johnson (175) and Joe Hollenbaugh (285) won by fall. Zane Badgley (132) won by major decision. Bradyn Volz (120) won by forfeit.
