Bell ringers needed for Red Kettle Campaign

GREENFIELD –Volunteers are needed to ring bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.

All funds raised during the campaign stay in Hancock County to help families in need. People can sign up as individuals, families, school groups or church groups. Sign up early to pick your time and location. Ringers are needed from Nov. 24 through Dec. 24. Visit registertoring.com.

Apprenticeship week this week

GREENFIELD – National Apprenticeship Week is Nov. 13-19 and the Region 5 Workforce Board is hoping to spread the word about apprentice programs in Indiana.

Apprenticeships benefit employers by enabling them to create a custom-trained and loyal workforce, according to a press release. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that 90% of completing apprentices remain with their employer. There are over 70 Registered Apprenticeship programs in Central Indiana; the board is ready to assist employers in creating programs as well. For more information, visit workonecentral.org.

Elks to host Breakfast with Santa

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Elks are planning a Breakfast with Santa event from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 2.

Free breakfast, games and prizes for kids of all ages will be available. Santa arrives on a Greenfield Fire Territory truck. The lodge is located at 820 S. State St., Greenfield.

Shoebox collections this week

GREENFIELD – Shoeboxes with toys, toiletries and gifts for children around the world are accepted this weeks at local drop-off sites for Operation Christmas Child.

The project of national group Samaritan’s Purse seeks to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way with children around the world by sending shoeboxes filled with gifts. This is National Collection Week and more than 4,500 drop-off sites are open nation-wide. In Greenfield, Evangel Christian Church is a drop-off site from noon to 5 Nov. 15, noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 16, noon to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18, noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 19, and 8-10 a.m. Nov. 20. The church is located at 1221 E. Main St., Greenfield.

In Fortville, New Life Christian Fellowship is a collection site from 5-7 pm. Nov. 15, 8:30-10:30 a.m. Nov. 16, 5-7 p.m. Nov. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18, 2:30-4:30 pm. Nov. 19, and 9-11 a.m. Nov. 20.

Community Thanksgiving meal coming to Fortville

FORTVILLE – A free community Thanksgiving Day dinner is coming up in Fortville.

The Blazer 88 Foundation will host the meal from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at Fortville Church of the Nazarene, 701 S. Maple St., Fortville. The event is open to anyone who wants to attend.

Founded in 2020 in memory of Chuck Theobald IV, the Blazer 88 Foundation is a volunteer organization that helps veterans with specific needs. Learn more at blazer88.org.
