Queen pageant Saturday in Greenfield

GREENFIELD – The Indiana State Festivals Association will host its annual pageant Saturday at Greenfield-Central High School.

There will be 21 contestants from all over the state vying for the title of 2024 ISFA Queen.

The pageant begins at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 in the auditorium of the school, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. Tickets are $10 and veterans may attend for free.

Euchre party to benefit soup kitchen

GREENFIELD – A party-style euchre event is planned for Nov. 18, benefiting the Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen.

The Elks Club of Greenfield will host the event at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at 820 S. State St., Greenfield. Registration and food starts at 5:30 p.m.; participants must be registered by 6:15 p.m. Dinner baskets and a cash bar is available.

Cost is $10 per person, half to the kitchen and half to the prize pot. There are eight deals per game, eight games total. Winners move to the next table and change partners each game; partners are not needed to participate. The top three scorers win cash prizes. Bring quarters for each euchre.

Racial justice workshop coming up

NEW PALESTINE – A racial justice workshop for the community is coming up at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church, 3519 S. 600W., New Palestine.

The workshop-style presentation is 45 minutes and will feature Charla Yearwood, therapist and CEO of Connected in Community, an Indianapolis-based therapy practice that focuses on inclusive mental health. Her presentation is titled “It’s Me. I’m the Problem: The Role of Personal Reflection in Anticracism Work.”

Immunization clinic Nov. 30

GREENFIELD – A community immunization clinic is coming up from 3-6 p.m. Nov. 30.

The event will be at Greenfield-Central High School, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. Registration can be completed at patients.vaxcare.com/registration with enrollment code IN65942, select Greenfield Central HS-11/30. Walk-ins are also welcome. Bring immunization records and insurance cards.

All who participate in the clinic will be vaccinated with all CDC-recommended vaccines; the state immunization registry will be consulted to assess the immunization needs of each individual. Those who would like to refuse a specific vaccine should contact the Indiana Immunization Coalition at least 48 hours prior to the event at [email protected].

Parade of Lights planned

GREENFIELD – The annual Christmas Parade of Lights in downtown Greenfield will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Riley Festival committee is planning the event and seeking parade entries, all of which must be decorated with a minimum of 500 lights. Parade applications are available at rileyfestival.com and must be completed by Dec. 1 by email at [email protected] or sent to 20 W. South St., Greenfield, IN 46140.

The parade route will be from the courthouse annex parking lot, up American Legion Place to Main Street, to Pennsylvania Street, to South Street. The parade will disband at South Street and Riley Avenue; a tree lighting ceremony will be at Depot Street Park.

Those that wish to participate should be aware of rules: one adult must be on floats on which children are riding; throwing of candy is prohibited but units may have walkers passing out candy; and no Santa costumes are allowed as Santa will be in a fire truck at the end of the parade. Bell ringers needed for Red Kettle Campaign

GREENFIELD –Volunteers are needed to ring bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.

All funds raised during the campaign stay in Hancock County to help families in need. People can sign up as individuals, families, school groups or church groups. Sign up early to pick your time and location. Ringers are needed from Nov. 24-Dec. 24. Visit registertoring.com.

Shirley seeks help with light display

SHIRLEY – Shirley Visionaries are asking the community to help fill Shirley Park with holiday lights and decorations. Ideal items are LED lights, blown mold lights, inflatable decorations and metal decorations.

Set-up is at 1 p.m. Nov. 25; the lights will be on display Dec. 2 to Jan. 1.

Decorations must be family-friendly for all ages; Shirley Visionaries have the right to remove displays not deemed appropriate. Shirley Visionaries are not responsible for broken or damaged items throughout the display time.
