HCPL accepting book donations

GREENFIELD – Clean out your shelves and get a tax break for helping the Hancock County Public Library by donating used media from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.

Drop off gently-used books, DVDs, CDs and video games at the Bookmobile garage on the north side of the central library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. The Friends of the Library is a non-profit charitable group of volunteers who raise money through the sale of donated items. The next sale will be Nov. 16-20.

Donor blanket event coming up

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Extension Homemakers are inviting people of all ages to create no-sew blankets to donate to charity.

The Indiana Donor Network is in need of local groups to create no-sew fleece blankets for children. One blanket can be made in less than two hours and children can participate. The blankets are given to the Children’s Journey Support Group, who donate to children who have a family member who has become an organ, eye or tissue donor upon their death.

The local homemakers have a goal of 30 blankets, to be made from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at the Hancock County Purdue Extension office, 972 E. Park Ave., Greenfield. Bring a pair of sharp scissors. Call Margie Clark at 317-498-1549 to attend to the club can ensure enough blanket kits are available.

Theater to host annual Christmas show

GREENFIELD – The Friends of the Theater will host its annual Christmas at the Ricks event at 7 pm. Dec. 16 at downtown Greenfield’s H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts.

This year’s featured artist is violinist Cathy Morris. The fundraising talent show also features local performing artists.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and a cash bar is available. Cost is $12 in advance or $15 at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets in advance, visit hctheaterfriends.org and click on “CATR 2023.”

McCordsville tree lighting coming up

MCCORDSVLLE – The Town of McCordsville will host its Christmas Tree Lighting event from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 1 at town hall, 6280 W. 800N., McCordsville.

The event will feature Santa Claus and the Grinch lighting the town’s Christmas tree, as well as photo opportunities. There will be performances by the McCordsville Elementary School Choir and Mt. Vernon Middle School Holiday Band. Free cookies, balloon twisting, face painting and ornament craft kits will be at the event; gourmet hot chocolate is available for purchase.

Write a letter to Santa and drop it in the mailbox at town hall; include a return address for a surprise.
