NP grad wins regional Emmy

NEW PALESTINE – A New Palestine native won a regional Emmy award for his work in producing a news broadcast in North Dakota.

Elisha Deluhery, a 2018 graduate of New Palestine High School, was part of a team that won in the Newscast Daytime for the Upper Midwest Chapter. The morning news broadcast award was for stations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Deluhery has a bachelor’s degree in cinema and media arts and had a complementary writing major from Anderson University.

Early voting available now

HANCOCK COUNTY – Early voting is open for the municipal election.

Hancock County residents are able to vote early at the Hancock County Courthouse, 9 E. Main St., through the north entrance. Times are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays through Nov. 3. On Nov. 6, voting will be available from 8 a.m. to noon. For election day, the voting center will move to the Hancock County Annex.

Several other early voting sites have also opened up: Both branches of the Hancock County Public Library are open weekdays from 2-6 p.m. until Nov. 3, with Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Greenfield library is at 900 W. McKenzie Road; the Sugar Creek branch is at 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine.

In Fortville, the Mt. Vernon administration building, 1806 Ind. 234, is open until Nov. 3 weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will also be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 28 and Nov. 4. This location will not be available on Election Day.

Five locations in total will be open for Election day on Nov. 7, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Hancock County Annex, Hancock County Public Library Greenfield Branch and the Sugar Creek Branch will remain voting centers. Two new voting centers added will be McCordsville Town Hall, 6280 W. 800 N., and Shirley Park Shelter House, 210 2nd St., Shirley.

Car wash fundraiser for food pantry

MCCORDSVILLE – A local food pantry is hosting a fundraiser through Crew Car Wash this month.

The McCordsville United Methodist Church Food Pantry will receive a portion of car wash sales to support the pantry now through Oct. 31. Car washes can be purchased through the website and used at any Crew location; 50% of proceeds goes to the pantry. Visit crewcarwash.com/fundraisers/mccordsville-united-methodist-church-food-pantry.

Leaf pick-up to begin soon

GREENFIELD – Leaf pick-up within the city limits of Greenfield will start Oct. 30.

Leaves must be raked to the curbside.

Leaf pickup for residents east of Ind. 9 is Oct. 30-Nov. 3, Nov. 13-Nov. 17 and Nov. 27-Dec. 1. Pickup for residents west of Ind. 9 is Nov. 6-Nov. 10, Nov. 20-Nov. 24 and Dec. 4-Dec. 8. The eastern section will include properties east of Ind. 9 to the city limits. The west side will include properties west of Ind. 9 to the city limits.

This schedule could change due to weather and the availability of machinery and crews. Leaves must be at the curb by 8 a.m. on the Monday of the scheduled week to ensure pickup.

Bagged leaves may also be picked up within two working days by calling the city street department, 317-477-4380. Bagged leaves must be placed at curbside for pick up.

Community connections event coming up

GREENFIELD – Purdue Extension Hancock County will host its annual Community Connections event from 4-7 pm. Nov. 11.

The event will feature a chicken noodle dinner benefiting the organization’s programming (cash or check only) with adult meals $15 and youth meals for those under age 8 at $8. Homemade ice cream is available for $4.

The event is designed to help the community learn more about 4-H, agriculture and natural resources and health and human sciences programming. A silent auction will be from 4-6:30 p.m. and there will also be free children’s activities and door prizes. The event is at the Sarah Burke Building of the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St., Greenfield.
