GREENFIELD — Guy Titus knows winning the election to become Greenfield’s next mayor isn’t a foregone conclusion.

That’s why he’s been hitting the campaign trail and meeting as many voters as he can since winning the Republican primary in May.

Having worked for the city for the past 43 years, Titus feels his experience makes him the best person to lead the city into the future.

“With all my history and knowledge of the inner workings of the city, I feel like I know our local government very well. I’m very involved in the community in many organizations and activities, and I feel like that experience is going to help me serve the people best,” said Titus, 66, who has lived in Greenfield since he was 12 years old.

He has fond memories of hanging out at Riley Park as a boy, and playing junior varsity football for Greenfield-Central High School the year the varsity team won the state championship.

Titus went to work for Greenfield Power & Light in 1979, working first as a meter reader before serving 28 years as a lineman. He’s since moved to administration, and now serves as the utility’s business services coordinator.

Having worked under six different mayors over the years, Titus feels he has the experience and know-how to lead the city into the future.

“Back when I was a meter reader the city had 3,600 meters. Now we have over 13,000 meters, so I’ve witnessed that growth over the years,” he said.

Titus is currently serving his fifth term as a township trustee, and is a longtime board member for the Hancock Health Foundation.

He said it’s not only his familiarity with Greenfield but his passion for the city that makes him the best choice for Greenfield’s next mayor.

he future of Greenfield. I have a long-range plan too,” Titus said.

He considers quality of growth to be the biggest issue facing the city, followed by public safety and roads and the continued revitalization of the city’s parks and downtown area.

“I think we already have a quality community. I want to embrace that and enhance it even more,” Titus said. “I want Greenfield to be a place where people want to live, where they want to raise their families.”

Public safety must always be a top priority, he said. “We have great policemen and firemen, and with growth we’re going to have to continue to grow those services,” Titus said.

He feels local leaders are on the right track in getting the city’s utilities back up to capacity, with the addition of a new water facility and wastewater treatment plant.

“Growth in a city of this size is inevitable,” he said. “What’s important is addressing that growth and ensuring you have balanced growth by providing quality homes, utilities and amenities.”

Continuing to develop the city’s downtown commercial district is also essential, he said.

“All in all our city is headed in a really good direction, and that’s thanks in large part to the current administration,” Titus said. “Now it’s our job to carry that positive growth forward in a way that maintains our city’s small town charm.”

Titus is proud to have earned endorsements from outgoing mayor Chuck Fewell and his wife, Kristin, as well as Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. He’s also been endorsed by the Hancock County Professional Firefighters Local 4787, the Hancock County Republican Party, Indy Chamber Business Advocacy Committee and MIBOR Realtors Association.
