Turkey Day 5K registration open

GREENFIELD – The annual Thanksgiving Day run in downtown Greenfield is scheduled for Nov. 23.

The Turkey Day 5K will be at 9 a.m.; price is $35. There is also a one-mile event for $25; prices increase Oct. 30. Proceeds of the race benefit Greenfield Parks & Recreation, Hope House, and Greenfield Main Street.

Working women to be honored

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Business and Professional Women’s Club will celebrate Working Women’s Month in November by honoring an outstanding working woman from Hancock County.

The celebration is in conjunction with the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Working Women’s Month.

Nominees for the award will be accepted through Oct. 27. Qualities that a nominee should exhibit include passion, generosity, commitment, optimism or supportiveness. A written nomination including the name of the woman being nominated, contact information and specific reason for the nomination may be submitted to Carole Stevens at [email protected].

Local libraries to host November events

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several science, art and literature events are coming up in November for local children and teens at area libraries.

Children in grades pre-K to 2 might want to join in on finger painting– “when science meets art.” STEAM Masterpieces is Nov. 6 at the main Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. International Origami Day Celebration is Nov. 13 in Greenfield. The Sugar Creek branch in New Palestine will host a Pals & PJs event for ages 3-7 Nov. 15, a Reading Dragons book club Nov. 9 for school-aged children and tweens, as well as a homeschool writing club Nov. 10 and a homeschool middle school girls book club Nov. 17.

Dogs will be featured in a couple of events: A Bluey & Bingo Bash is set for Nov. 14 in New Palestine, targeting children ages 2-9 and their families. Both branches will feature Bentley’s Buddies & Friends reading dogs Nov. 19.

Teens in grades 6-12 can build towers with noodles and marshmallows Nov. 2, or create “bad art” Nov. 20 in Greenfield. Ages 9-18 can create stocking stuffers and cards for seniors in the community Nov. 29.

In Fortville, a Play & Learn Storytime is every Wednesday morning for all ages at the Vernon Township Public Library. A homeschool STEAM club is Nov. 17, while Bentley’s Buddies reading dogs will be available Nov. 18. For more, visit vtpl.lib.in.us.
