GREENFIELD – A bourbon tasting event not only brings friends together for a night out, but also raises money for those who need a nutritious delivered meal.

Boots & Bourbon, the annual fundraiser for Meals on Wheels of Hancock County is coming up Oct. 21.

“We’re calling it Indiana’s premier bourbon tasting event, and it does have a pretty widespread audience – people come from all over the place,,” said Lynda Kosh, executive director of Meals on Wheels.

More than 120 labels for bourbon and wine tastings, craft appetizers, cigar pairings, music, boot pull, live and silent auctions and more are expected at the event at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St., Greenfield.

Kosh said they’ve hosted the event about five years now, and it’s been gaining momentum. It attracts people not only from Hancock County but surrounding counties as well, and some from out of state.

With 300-400 people expected to attend, Kosh said she’s looking forward to the fun, relaxed atmosphere.

“We have a lot of pub-height tables so people are mingling, they’re visiting; sometimes we have 25-30 vendors for the bourbon and those are around the outside of the room and people are just able to meander and eat,” she said. “The food is incredible; it’s very high-end — what we call party appetizers.”

A VIP pass for $75 offers special tastings with early entry. General admission at $45; there is also a safe driver pass at $15.

She said people enjoy the experience for the variety of food and tastings, and also for the fact that they’re contributing to a good cause. All proceeds help the agency deliver nutritious meals to seniors and the homebound, so they can stay in their homes and be independent longer.

“If you’ve not been you’ve got to come experience this. It is exceptional,” she said. “It is just so much fun. The atmosphere is great. We decorate to the nines, and just knowing you’re having a good time with family and friends but knowing you’re supporting senior citizens — it’s just enjoyable.”

Advance purchase of tickets is preferred and the VIP pass often sells out in advance. General admission is available at the door the day of the event. For tickets or to learn more, visit bootsandbourbon.org or call 317-477-FOOD.
